Ngoako went on exchange to Sweden in 2007 and has also been an intern for YFU Denmark and YFU Sweden. He has since his return participated in almost all parts within YFU SA and is also a board member. He looks forward to being an active volunteer for the most part of his “life-long membership”.
Susanne, originally from Germany, went on exchange to the United States. She recently relocated to Dubai where she works for the Swedish Trade Council. However, she continues to be an active YFU volunteer, as well as a YFU board member, and visits South Africa as often as she can.
Selelo is a first year university student at Wits University in Johannesburg who went on exchange to Germany in 2011. When he is not busy volunteering for YFU he practices martial arts – so watch out!
Barbara has degree in Vocal Art, is a member of the Pretoria Bach Choir and is currently working at a creche. She is an older sister for 6 exchange students and her wedding with fellow volunteer Phillip was attended by YFU guests from all over South Africa and as far abroad as Finland, Argentina, Germany and Austria.
Busi is a quality and risk specialist and lives in Centurion. She went on exchange to Germany in 1997 and now wants to continue the “YFU legacy” by sharing her experiences with students and help them make the best out of their stay in South Africa.
Mariana lives in Middelburg, together with her family. She has hosted 8 exchange students from 7 different countries and is currently hosting one student from Italy and one from Argentina. She also co-ordinates different YFU activities in Mpumalanga, such as orientations and the placement of inbound students.
Lerato is a high school learner from Polokwane. She went on exchange to Mexico in 2013 and her family hosted an exchange student from France in 2014. She became a volunteer because she loves to travel and meet new people while learning new languages.
Magda is an admin officer at Nissan and lives in Pretoria. She is a YFU board member and her and her husband Thys have hosted six exchange students from all over the world. Magda became a YFU volunteer because her family had a wonderful experience with their first exchange student and wanted to help others to do the same.
Marguerite is a high school student from Lydenburg, Mpumalanga. She went on exchange to Germany in 2012 and her family hosted an exchange student from Denmark in 2013. She became involved with YFU as a way to say “thank you” and to help other students make their exchange year a success.
Limpho lives in Bloemfontein where she studies at CUT. She went on exchange to the Netherlands in 2008 and decided to become a YFU volunteer because she wanted to learn and experience new things, give back and help other exchange students make their stay in South Africa as fun and as informative as possible.
Janine is from Vaalpark in the Free State and just finished matric. She went on exchange to Sweden in 2013 and is currently taking a gap year. When she’s not busy volunteering for YFU she likes trying weird experiments with food and cuddling with her little pet monkey Mr. Benjamin.
Elsie is a student and administrator from Johannesburg. She became a YFU volunteer because she enjoys meeting and learning from new people from different backgrounds.
Christie is a student and lives in Parkhurst, Johannesburg. She went on exchange to Sweden in 2012 and one of her biggest goals is to travel the world.
Lebogang is a high school learner from Polokwane and went on exchange to Germany in 2013. She became a YFU volunteer beause she loves meeting new people , making long lasting friendships and learning more about different cultures.
Robyn is a high school learner from Edenvale, Johannesburg, who grew up in Canada. She went on exchange to Germany in 2014 and now wants to help as many other students as possible to give them the opportunity at such an amazing experience as well.
Minni is a high school learner from Centurion who went on exchange to Germany in 2014. His family also hosted an exchange student from Italy in 2014. He became a YFU volunteer to stay involved in the “World of Exchange Students” after his own exchange.
Vince is a law student at the University of the Free State and he went on exchange to Germany in 2008. Being a YFU volunteer is his way of giving back and to give other students what YFU gave him during his exchange year.
Simone is a high school learner from Randburg, Gauteng. She went on exchange to Hungary in 2012. She loves outdoor activities and punk music and became a volunteer to help other students have an unforgettable exchange experience too.
