Come to South Africa!

Our International Volunteer Programme

Are you a high school graduate, between 18 and 35 years old, and keen to discover an exciting country and culture? Then apply for our international volunteer programme and work in a seabird and penguin rescue centre in beautiful Cape Town!

Our volunteer programme ranges from 6 weeks to six months in duration and gives you the opportunity to expand your skills in your chosen field, support an important cause, and experience South Africa like a local.

YFU will support you every step of the way and ensure that you have an enriching, educational, safe and fun experience. All our volunteers are thoroughly prepared for the programme, receive on-going support throughout the programme, and become a part of our local volunteer community. International travel, insurance, accommodation, airport pick-up and several orientations are included in the programme.

High School Exchange in South Africa

Explore a diverse environment as you get to know South African people, whose cultures began in many different places around the world!

Our high school programme is offered as a 6-month and a 10-month programme, starting in either August or January each year. Exchange students live with a carefully selected host family, attend a South African high school, participate in sports and other social activities, and have the opportunity to learn one (or more) of South Africa’s 11 official languages.

Throughout their stay in South Africa, our exchange students receive on-going support by our dedicated volunteers and staff and participate in several orientation camps. Are you ready for the adventure of a lifetime? Learn more about our high school exchange programmes and contact us for more information!
